The Principal of the college Dr.M.Jezer Jebanesan presided and the Head of the Department Dr.J.Margaret Beula welcomed the participants. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.James R.Daniel, former Principal of the college who complemented the department for its achievements in the academic voyage.   Dr.S.Ravikumar, Professor in the Department of Oceanography and CAS, Alagappa University in his key note address, gave a good narration of the advancements made in marine based nanoparticles study and marine drug discovery technology in the recent past. In the afternoon session Dr.T.D.P.Rajan, Senior Scientist, National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST),

Thiruvananthapuram, gave an account of the current developments in processing and properties of nanostructured materials and nanocomposites for engineering applications. Proceedings of the seminar were released by Prof. I.Theodore, former Vice Principal and HoD of Chemistry and the first copy was received by Prof. C Chitra Thomas another former HoD. Resarch papers were presented by the participants. The valedictory address was given by Prof. I. Theodore and the vote of thanks by the organizing secretary Dr. M.Suresh Chandra kumar. The seminar has been sponsored by an alumnus of the department, Mr.D.Israel, Director, Apex Alloys Steel (Pvt) Ltd, Ahmadabad and it was well attended by delegates from various institutions in Tamilnadu and Kerala.

d) Second Parker Memorial Lecture:

Parker memorial lecture is a Memorial Lecture organized  jointly by the Department of Chemistry and Research Centre and the Scott Alumni Association every year through the endowment created by the (1970-‘73) B.Sc chemistry batch mates in 2011, in honour of The Missionary Principal Rev.George Parker who served with distinction for well over quarter of a century. The second lecture ‘Energy-Crisis and solutions’, was held in the Eastaff Hall in Scott Christian College (Autonomous) on Wednesday, March 06 at 1.30 pm. The programme commenced with invocation. Dr.J.Margaret Beula, HoD of Chemistry welcomed the gathering which included, along with UG, PG and research students, senior alumni members as well.

Dr.P.Banerjee Rajakumar, formerly Associate Professor of Chemistry, who himself belonging to the sponsoring batch introduced the Endowment. The Prncipal Dr.M.Jazer Jabanesan in his presidential address lauded the topic chosen for the lecture as the present era was energy starved and the country was passing through difficult times. Dr.K.Sasi, Principal, Rohini College of Engineering and Technology, Anjugramam and former Senior Vice-President of Bianani Zinc Ltd, Ernakulam, delivered the Endowment   lecture. He focused on the energy needs of the country and how could the nonconventional energy sources like wind and solar radiations, be exploited to the maximum. Prof. P. John Samuel, formerly Associate Professor of Chemistry, who also was from the sponsoring batch, gave the vote of thanks. The meeting came to an end with the national anthem.
