Student Support Services

1. Students Welfare Fund

The Students Aid Fund is available in the form of cash for deserving students  to meet part of their examination or tuition fees, cost of essential books, clothing  or medical expenses.

Poor students of good academic performance who wish to avail themselves  of the Students Aid Fund can apply to the Principal with the recommendation of their Heads of the Departments. The Principal will sanction the aid on the basis of the recommendation and advice of the advisory body. The conduct and character of the students will  be considered in addition to their financial status.

2. Free Mid-day Meal

With the generous contribution from well-wishers and the staff, free mid-day  meal is provided to a few really poor students on all working days.

Those who wish to avail themselves of this can apply to the Head of the Department or Principal  in  person.

3. Youth Welfare Activities

The funds available under the World University Service (WUS) and the Students Services are utilised for the following purposes:

      l    Selection and deputation of our students for various cultural competitions;

      l    Training of suitable students to participate in the District and University Level Cultural Competitions;

      l    Conduct of Cultural Tours for the benefit of the participants in various cultural competitions.

Rules

1.    Students staying in the hostel shall obey all the rules of the hostel and accept the decisions of the Warden and the hostel authorities in every matter concerning their stay in the hostel.

2.    The mess fee and card will be sent to the parent/guardian at the beginning of every month and the mess fee for every month shall be paid before the 7th of the following month.

3.    Students are advised not to bring expensive jewellery and clothing to the hostel.  They must keep costly things under lock and key.

4.    Every student is expected to keep her room and the hostel premise tidy.

5.    Strict silence should be observed during study hours.

6.      Every student shall be present at the roll call at 7 p.m.  There will be prayers following this for which all Christian students are expected to be present.

7.    The entrance of the hostel shall be closed at 6.30 p.m. Any student, who for any special reason, is unable to be present at the roll call or be within the hostel before 6.30 p.m. should apply for prior permission to the Warden or Sub-Warden.

8.    For conducting a meeting in the hostel, the prior permission of the Warden should be obtained.

9.    No notice of any kind shall be put up or circulated in the hostel without the prior sanction of the warden/subwarden and duly countersigned by the Warden.

10.  Every student will be supplied with two visitor’s cards.  Only persons holding the visitor’s cards are allowed to visit the students in the hostel.

11.  Normally, students will be allowed to go home for one week end in a month.  On such occasions, if the student is unable to come back to the hostel on the expected day, her parent or guardian must inform the Warden or the Sub-Warden in writing of the delay in the student’s return to the hostel.

Hostel Fees

1.    The establishment charge including room rent for students is Rs.2500/- per annum, payable in two installments of Rs.1250/-. An amenities fee of Rs.10/- will be collected every month.  New entrants to the hostel must pay the entire establishment fee for the year at the time of admission.

2.    A deposit of Rs.1000/- shall be paid before admission is made. The deposit will be refunded less breakages when the student leaves the hostel at the end of the course.

3.    Guest rate is Rs.50/- per day. (guests shall be admitted only with the permission of the Warden). 

4.    Students are not ordinarily allowed to leave the hostel in  the course of the year. However, if a student insists on leaving the hostel, she will have to pay the entire establishment charges for  the year.

5. Non-Resident Women’s Centre

All girl students are expected to stay in the Non-Resident Women's Centre during their leisure hours. They can go to the classes only 5 minutes before the bell goes.

All girl students are expected to take their lunch only in the Non-Resident Women's Centre.

6. Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The Parent Teacher Association is successfully functioning in this College as per Government guidelines with the following objectives:

l   To ensure a cordial relationship between the teachers and parents/guardians of students;

l   To create a conducive academic environment in the campus;

l   To evolve steps to improve the standard of higher education;

l   To inculcate discipline in the student community and guide them in nation-building activities;

l   To cultivate environmental awareness among students and educate them to be in harmony with nature;

l   To assist the government in implementing the new education policy;

l   To raise funds within government norms to construct library, laboratory, classroom and students centre.

The annual membership fee fixed by the Government of Tamilnadu is Rs.60/- (Rupees sixty only) payable by all students.

7. Alumni Association

Thousands of young persons have passed through the portals of this venerable hundred and thirteen year old institution.  Scott Christian College Alumni Association has been formed with a view:

l To enable past students to establish contact and regular fellowship;

l To encourage views on the changing perception in higher education;

l To actively involve in programmes of action to further the cause of the Alma Mater;

l To broaden thought and action;

l To offer an avenue for expressing their gratitude to this great institution.

Membership is open to all former students and staff (Past and Present) of Scott Christian College and the annual membership is Rs.100 only.
