Rules & Regulations
1. The
Principal is the Patron of all associations (for the U.G.) / clubs (for
the
P.G.).
2. The Head of the Department of every major shall be the President of that Association or Club. And the next senior staff shall be
the
Vice-President.
3. Every student of the undergraduate class shall be a member of the English Association and the Association
representing his / her first
Language and his / her major
subject.
4. Every student of the post-graduate
class shall be a member of the PG Club representing his
/ her subject.
5. A
boy and a girl representative shall be elected from each class for the
respective Association or Club. One of
the final year representatives shall be elected as secretary of the
association/club. The vacancy so created
shall be filled by electing another representative from his / her class.
6. The
Secretary of the Association/Club shall be from the final year of the
course
concerned and the secretary shall be elected by the representatives of
Association / Club.
7. The
eligibility criteria of the Students’ Council shall apply to the
elections of
the representatives and the secretary as well.

Education
The College provides excellent
opportunities for students to develop their talents
in Sports and Games. We
have a unique tradition of producing
distinguished
sportspersons in the country. Infrastructure
for playing outdoor games like
Cricket, Ball Badminton, Badminton,
Basketball, Hockey, Football, Kho-Kho, Tennis, Kabaddi, Volleyball, and
Tenikoit, and indoor games like Table tennis, Chess and Carrom exist. Students are encouraged to play on all
working days and those who opt Physical
Education in Part V will get extra training.
Intramural tournaments and
athletics are a regular feature. Winning
teams are given shields. Certificates,
cups and medals are given to individual winners and runners-up. Students who take real interest in competitive games and sports will be included in the College teams and selected for participation in
local, intercollegiate
(Zonal and
Inter Zonal), State level and inter-University
competitions.

5. National
Cadet Corps (NCC)
(2/11 Company
of 11 Tamil Nadu Battalion
NCC)
NCC organisation, created in 1948
by an Act of Parliament, was started in Scott Christian College in 1951 for men
students. 120 cadets are given military training every year and those
who are
eligible are adorned with ranks besides preference in employment
opportunities.
Students are encouraged to join the NCC to channel the youth energy in
constructive work and to mould their character at the most
impressionable age.
Sanction has been accorded for
starting NCC-Army-Women's wing and NCC Navy with and an intake of 50
and 60
cadets respectively since 2005. And thus yet another 110 cadets are
given
military training every year.
The aims of the NCC are:
§ To develop qualities of character,
courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit
of
adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among
the youth
to make them useful and patriotic citizens of India.
§ To create a human resource of
organised, trained and motivated youth to provide leadership in all
walks of
life including the Armed Forces and be always available for the service
of the
Nation.
NCC training includes footdrill,
armsdrill, weapons training [rifle,
bayonet, Light Machine Gun (LMG), Sten Machine Gun (SMG)], fieldcraft,
battle-craft, scouts and patrol, field engineering, map reading, self
defence,
first aid, hygiene and sanitation, civil defence and leadership
training.
Opportunities are open to the
cadets to attend All India Training Camps, Army Attachment Camps,
National
Integration Camps in different parts of India, Republic Day
Parade at New
Delhi,
Mountaineering
and Trekking Courses and Basic Leadership Courses.
Cadets, who put in more than 75% attendance will be eligible for taking the ‘B’ and ‘C’ Certificate Examination at the end of the second and third year respectively.

National
Service Scheme (NSS)
The NSS aims at providing opportunities to the student members to serve the society so as to make the members develop into better citizens. The
regular
activities
of the NSS include theory classes as
well as field work. The theory classes are spread over 4 semesters
covering 24
topics like National Integration, Rural Development, Lab-to-land
Technology,
Theatre arts, Evils of Dowry system, etc.
Other associated programmes are :

Management
Every year, there
will be a 10-day special camp activities to link the college with the
community, focusing on a social theme. This College has seven units of the National Service Scheme.

The Rotaract Club
The Rotaract Club of this College is sponsored by
the Rotary Club of Nagercoil. This is an international organisation primarily for young men and women of the age group 18 through 28.
A member of the teaching staff is appointed by the Principal as Adviser to help in the
organising of the club.

Adventure Club
The Scott Adventure Club, affiliated to
National Adventure Foundation,
was started in this college in 1995.
The aim of the club is:
l
To expose the
youth to nature, hardships and hazards, build their personality,
character,
confidence and courage through adventure programmes.
Opportunities are open to students
to attend trekking, rock climbing and mountaineering courses, cross
country
cycling, water skiing, sailing, scuba diving, ballooning, hand gliding,
power
gliding, para-sailing and para-gliding.
Since bulk of the finances for the
programmes are provided by the University Grants Commission (UGC) all
the above
programmes are heavily subsidised so as to enable the student community
to
avail themselves of these opportunities. Membership
is open to all students.
